21 weeks

I haven't shown you a belly pic in ages, but I got a pretty decent one today, so I'll show you.

I feel gigantic (but of all the bump pics I definitely like this one the best.)

I feel like a whiny broken record, but this weight gain thing is really hard for me.

Looking at belly pics on countdown to pregnancy helps a bit though.  I know everyone just seems to gain at different times.  I'm just worried about it coming off again afterwards.  The heat making my feet swell and hurt so bad to stand on is not helping!  But otherwise I feel great.

That's all for now.  I'm back to school and all out of words at the moment...

How was weight gain for you?

  1. Cute pic. :) You look great.

I've gained 18 lbs so far, and I'm not really happy about it. :|

I'm a little worried that little girl is only 1.5 pounds and I have 3 months left, I don't really see how I can stay in the 25 -35 range that is right for my body size. I'm worried about loose skin afterwards, stretch marks and losing the weight afterwards. I've never struggled with my weight, and always eaten really well (except now) so I feel totally out of control.

Oh, well. I do love my belly getting bigger. Just not the rest of me. :)

    1. I agree. I think I'm up around 15, but it's hard to measure coming straight off of IVF, especially since my doc didn't weight me until 9 weeks. So she thinks there is no issue. I've been the same as you my whole life, always worried about my weight, but no major struggle (but I eat pretty well and work out - at least before).

All of my mom friends look great about 2 years later so I figure we will too!

  2. Great belly pic! I'm sure with a bit of devotion after the birth, you'll be able to get back to a trimmer shape in no time. Enjoy the fatness! I cannot wait to get myself a fat belly for 9 months :-)

  3. I'm only 17 weeks but I'm also struggling with the weight gain. I've always worked really, really hard to keep it off. I'm not blessed with a fast metabolism or a naturally skinny figure. I work for it! I always thought I'd give in and just "be pregnant," but I'm finding this hard. I still watch what I eat and if I don't work out, I still get upset with myself. I gained 12 pounds, just in the first trimester!

You look great, though. If you can believe it, my bump is about the same size and I'm a month behind. Maybe that will make you feel better. You look cute, not huge :)

    1. I gained about 12 in the first also. And I'm only 5'4. That's another thing that bugs me...everything is measured by weight, not percentage.

  4. I think you look great! My bump is definitely way bigger than I would have expected at 22 weeks. And I swear, if one more person tells me I have twins, I'm going to punch them in the throat.

  5. You look great! What a prefect bump! I was just reading that rather than weigh yourself, you should track your bicep and thigh measurements. Apparently that's what a lot of nutritionists do. That way you'll see if your weight gain is all baby or not. Being pregnant with twins and looking at a gain of 50 pounds or more, I think I'm going to give it a try!

    1. I haven't been weighing myself at home at all since I got to the dr every two weeks. I'm definitely more worried about the arms and legs than belly. I haven't measured, but I put on a pair of shorts I thought might be low enough to work and that was a nice little slap in the face (or hips).

  6. Not to be that person but I have actually lost 12lbs since getting pregnant. Which I attribute to eating healthier and all the nausea/heartburn that I have had. The Dr. isn't concerned because I do have plenty to lose. The swelling has been bad for me too, I am hoping with the cooler weather it does get better.

  7. You look great. I hope the weather cools down soon and your swelling goes away. Although (suffering the same problems lately) I do recommend buying some new sneakers anyway. They're technically not allowed where I work, but I'm wearing them until someone tells me not to :)

  8. Glad you and bub are doing well! I'm 32 weeks and am supposed to gain a pound per week since I'm in the home stretch. I can't imagine getting any bigger, but my baby girl will gain half a lb. and I'll get the other half. I put a baby jogger on the registry and hope nursing and exercise will help shed the weight. Blessings!

  9. Truthfully the weight gain has been the hardest part for me. I haven't gotten any m/s, or heartburn or anything else. I'm 16wks and look about the same as you. I thought friends would lie and say "oh you're not that big" but that hasn't been the case. Even when I go out the number one question I get is "how far along are you?" followed by "oh wow, are you having twins". At first it was getting me really down. Don't get me wrong I'm extremely grateful to be pregnant and I know I'm petite so I would show earlier I just didn't think I would be this big. I've been dealing with it better as the weeks go by. I'm trying to just focus on other things.

    1. I'm noticing that the growth ebbs and flows, so I figure we'll all pretty much equal out at the end if we're being relatively healthy. I'm petite too. I really do think that makes a difference in showing early.

    2. I sure hope it's true about the ebbs an flows. I'm already up 26lbs. My doc keeps reminding me no more than 30lbs but with 24wks to go I just don't see how that's possible.

  10. Weight gain was so hard for me! I was about 40-50 pounds overweight in high school but lost it all my sophomore year of college, so to have to watch the number on the scale rise again during my pregnancy just about killed me. I panicked a number of times after weighing myself and ended up gaining a little more than recommended (38 lbs). BUT I did lose it all again. Just be patient with yourself after you give birth. I gave myself a year to lose it and, though I had to work pretty hard, by my daughter's 1st birthday, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. It can and will happen...and of course, it's all worth it in the end!

  11. A note about your weight gain fears... every single woman I know that gained a reasonable amount of weight (like, not 50+ pounds) lost it much more quickly than they expected. Most of my friends, in fact, are thinner now (after BFing and running after a toddler) than they were before they got pregnant. Just a happy thought for your Friday!

    1. Thanks. Yeah I've heard of people get their skinniest ever while breast feeding. I'm just scared to see whether it works or not. My sister's baby is 2 months and she's never been able to get more than half of the supply she needs so the weight it coming off very slowly. (And she has to pump 7 times a day! And she's stressed out all the time.)

  12. I'm so glad to hear I'm not alone! My weight has been pretty constant for 10+ years although I've worked to keep it that way. I have always been afraid of gaining weight and I'm not working out much right now which makes me feel even worse.

  13. Cute picture!! Let me see, my weight was pretty constant even after the first pregnancy, with three of them. I always found that weight *melted* off after the delivery for the first two weeks until I was 5-10 pounds heavier than when I got pregnant. Then that last bit of weight stayed around until maybe 7-9 months after just because your body sometimes likes to keep a little extra around because of the breastfeeding. That said, I never had to watch my weight really. You will put on most of the weight the last part of the pregnancy, and a lot of that will be fluid that leaves soon after delivery, thank goodness. I think that your belly shot looks great!! With all the doctors--high risk and not--I've seen about pregnancies, not one said anything about my weight gain, and I usually gained about 35-40 pounds with the singles. I don't really have any stretch marks (the belly button being an exception) after 5 kids, and don't have a pouch. A bit of loose skin, yes, but not much :D
