IVF#1: 2nd Ultrasound Results

I'm not sure if these results make me happy or unhappy.  You tell me what you think.

I had 13 follicles on Wednesday, ranging from 5-11mm.  Today I have 10 ranging from 7-14 (although she only measured 8).

I'm a little bummed because I was hoping to have more than 13, not fewer.  But I guess it's good that they are pretty close in size.

I would really like to hear from some of you about your follicle sizes on different days of stims and what you ended up retrieving.

Definite good news is that my lining is 8mm and "perfect."  That's never happened before so, yay!

Tonight I start Cetrotide in addition to my Bravelle and Menopur and I add an additional Menopur so 150 iu each of Bravelle and Menopur.

Retrieval is still most likely the end of next week.

  1. I can tell you from my experience, the slower they grow the better. I had 23 retrieved and 19 were mature but only had two decent embryos to transfer and none to freeze. This was mostly due to stimming to quickly. Looks like you're doing great. Slower growing usually better quality. Keep your chin up!

  2. From what I've read on internet land, follicles grow about 1-2mm per day, so what you're saying sound right on target. Also, could it be that some of your follicles are hiding? It can be hard to see them on the ultrasound, but as the doctor drains surrounding follicles during retrieval, they'll become more obvious again. (At least I think that's what the doctor said.) During my first IVF, they had seen 13 on the day of trigger, but actually retrieved 17.

Glad to hear your lining is perfect!

  3. 13 is still a DARN good number. They always find a few more during retrieval (or usually, anyways). Here's a link to my IVF chart (w/ follie sizes): http://meiermadness.blogspot.com/2011/12/my-oves-like-dramaz-cd12.html
We retrieved 36, 22 were mature, and 18 fertilized. We transferred two on D5, and froze 8 (on days 6 and 7).

    Good luck... you're doing great!

  4. I agree with everyone else, you want more quality ones that quantity, and the ones that are growing (and 10 is a lot!) are all around the same size. They will have more time to grow and then the trigger gives them that extra boost of growth in the end. I think you will be just fine!

  5. As much as we want large numbers of eggs, more doesn't always equal better. 10 is a fantastic number! And as long as everyone is growing at a steady rate, you're doing well. Hang in there and I'm hoping more good news very soon.

  7. I like your numbers better than mine, my dear. Quality, quality, quality, right?

  8. I think you're looking good - quality over quantity, especially if they all contain eggs, that's what we want! *hugs*

  9. Sorry that I can't help you out with numbers... they don't tend to give us much info at my clinic. I agree with the others... quality is the most important thing :) FXd for you and your upcoming retrieval xo
